Edo Castle, also known as Chiyoda Castle, was built in 1457 by a shogun named Ota Dokan. While Tokugawa Ieyasu was occupying the castle, Edo, renamed as Tokyo in 1868, flourished. Edo Castle took a long time to fully be constructed but was later destroyed by fires and other natural disasters.
